Squash Auckland wins Award 14/11/2012
Squash Auckland has won the New Zealand Secondary Schools Innovation Award - the prestigious award for innovation in delivering squash to schools in the Auckland region. Our inflatable courts have enabled us to deliver squash in a fun and innovative way to schools. The award was presented to Philip Vodanovich GM Squash Auckland by Garry Carnachan Executive Director of the NZ Secondary Schools Council.

North Shore 50th Celebrations
What a wonderful couple of days of celebration were held at the North Shore Club. Members and friends gathered from far and wide to share in the celebrations at the club. Both the Friday night Cocktail evening and the formal dinner on the Saturday saw the club packed to capacity. Many of the personalities that have made squash the wonderful game it is were gathered in celebration of a very memorable 50 years that have provided so much to the squash community on the shore and across the Auckland region. Well done to Bob Campton and the team.
Auckland Teams - 10th Oct update
AUCKLAND JUNIOR GIRLS TEAM - NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
Another outstanding effort from the Auckland Girls Junior team has seen them beat Wellington 3-1 and once again Ellie Epke has beaten Rebecca Barnett in 4 - awesome effort girls :)

The boys team have finished above their seeding - finishing 4th in a tight tussle where they were beaten on count back in the playoff for 3rd/4th.

Under 19 Girls this particluar match was an awesome result for Ellie who is still elligible for the Under 15 age group.

Auckland Masters Champions Shine
At the recently completed NZ Masters Nationals, Auckland players once again put their best foot (feet) forward.
Congratulations to our latest National Champions:
The Auckland team finished a competitive 3rd place and it could so easliy have been 1st or 2nd.
The team was once again fortunate to have the management of Ian Gunthorp ensuring that they participated in all events both on and off the court
Also the prestigious Rob Roche Award for Meritorious Service to Masters Squash went to Trevor Colyer a long time sevant to the game and the wider squash community
Squash Auckland Club Referees hits 120+
Earlier this year Squash NZ launched the club referee certification process. The Club Referee qualifiaction is the first step for players to gain a clear understanding of the rules of squash. The process reafirms what many know but also confirms rules and standards of play for beginners to experienced players.
To date 120 players have gained certification as a club referee - well done!

Henderson "Final - Down to the Wire"
New Zealand's Evan Williams has come agonisingly close to his first title on the PSA men's world squash tour.
Williams has been beaten in five games by top seed Jan Koukal in the final of the Henderson PSA event in Auckland. The 22-year-old Kiwi started brilliantly, winning the opening two games and appeared to be on track to avenge his two defeats to Koukal earlier this year on tour.
However, the 29-year-old Czech refused to lie down, gradually clawing his way back into the match and eventually wrapping up a 10-12, 7-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-8 victory in 72 minutes.
Secondary Schools Champions
The Epsom Gilrls Grammar team has once again won the National Secondary Schools title and with such a young team this dominance looks set to continue for a few more years.

Auckland Women's Team crowned National Champions
The Auckland Women's team have won the national title, it was a great team effort.
Team members Rachel McLeod (Captain), Elle Epke, Abbie Palmer, Georgina Shelton-Agar and Michelle Heron.
Auckland Men finish 4th.
The Auckland men played ot their seeding finishing a creditable 4th against strong opposition.

Campbell Grayson - wins North Island Championships
Campbelll Grayson completed the North, South double with his win at the North Island Championships
held in Cambridge over the weekend - the world number 53 and number 1 seed, held off a late fight back from
second seed Evan Williams, to win 11-6, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8. Grayson had earlier accounted for unseeded
Aucklander Lance Beddoes 11/3 9/11 11/8 11/7 in the semis while Williams earned his place in the title
decider with an 11-9, 11-6, 11-1 victory over third seed Paul Coll.
Eden Epsom Junior wins Scholarship
The inaugural Harcourts Junior Sports Scholarship awarded - Anthony Lepper has won the Harcourts
Junior Sports Scholarship, awarded once a year to a deserving junior tennis or squash player.
Anthony has been NZ Under 11 champion, is climbing up the grades, and will receive ten advanced lessons from former World Squash Champion Carol Owens, made possible with support from Harcourts.

Jacinta Matson from Northland defeated Auckland's Anna Hughes. The weekend was a great success for
squash with the beginner J grade being the largest draw suggesting that squash has an ever growing ground
swell of junior players coming through the ranks.

Auckland Open - North Shore
What a fantastic event with over 160 participants competing over the 4 days. In the Women's final Amanda Landers-Murphy from BOP defeated Rachel McLeod in straight sets. The Men's final between defending champion Mike Corren (Aus) and Martin Knight (North Shore) was a very tight tussle with Martin coming back from a two set deficit to win in 5.
